The Story Behind Kékeré & Co: Celebrating African Culture Through Fashion

The name Kékeré means “small” in Yoruba, a language spoken in southwestern Nigeria. It carries a powerful reminder: even small actions can create meaningful change. That’s the spirit behind our brand, using fashion as a way to showcase the beauty, creativity, and soul of African culture while giving back to the communities that inspire us.

Where It All Began

Kékeré & Co was founded in 2020 with one purpose: to celebrate the richness and vibrancy of African culture through authentic, handmade fashion. We wanted to create pieces that are not only stylish and versatile but also meaningful clothing and accessories that tell a story and connect people to the heritage behind them.

Every piece in our collection is handmade with care by local artisans across Africa, most of them women. By supporting their craft, we help empower artisans, provide sustainable livelihoods, and celebrate the incredible talent and creativity that Africa has to offer.

Fashion With Purpose

We believe that fashion should be more than just beautiful; it should have purpose. At Kékeré & Co, a minimum of 10% of every purchase goes to children’s charities and projects in Africa. We are proud to support the Back to School initiative with Ewaade Foundation, helping out-of-school children in Makoko, Lagos, return to the classroom and dream again.

We also take sustainability seriously. Our zero-waste policy ensures that leftover fabrics are reused or donated to other artisans, so nothing goes to waste. Every item we create reflects our commitment to people, the planet, and purpose-driven fashion.
